YAMINI NAYAR. CUT, BLEND, PULL, THRUST
Curated by Iona Fergusson
YAMINI NAYAR’s work intersects photography, sculpture and the language of architecture. Her practice foregrounds questions regarding the built environment, its social and psychological dimensions and the body. Nayar builds and photographs three-dimensional sculptural assemblages made from found and raw materials to create ‘complicated documents’ in which the camera is not a reliable translator but an opinionated storyteller. The photographic object becomes the trace document of a process of physical construction as the original sculptural assemblages are destroyed. The performative process of construction and destruction is a central theme of Cut, Blend, Pull, Thrust.
